On all joomla website we install JCE and have a licence to add some great add ons.
I will explain how to add an image with a thumbnail and larger image view.

You will see a pop up window appear, part of it will a Browse section which is where you can add folders and upload images. Its always good practise to create folders to match your pages (sections) and to put images into matching folders. It makes for easier editing by others and yourself. You will see below a graphic in 3 you will see list of folders, to open click on the word next to the folder. Select where you want your folder to appear and press the yellow folder icon under the 1. Name your folder and then OK. To upload images into your folder click on upload icon 2 where an upload window will appear. see graphic below

Click on upload 8 and wait for green ticks to appear next to images.
Finally close the window by clicking on close.

10 Click on the enable box 10

Finally at the bottom click the insert button and then save or publish your page.
Take a look at your website and click on the small image to see the larger image.
That's it you have now earned yourself a coffee or tea. After you have done this a few time it will become very straightforward and will be worth the effort.
Of course fill free to play around and like all things with joomla its very intuitive and you will see pop up help when you mouse over parts of the editor.
This is one of the sections I cover when teaching joomla on a one to one or group.
Happy joomlaing *smile*
